Pray for our leaders
Most of us are familiar with 1 Tim 2:1 where the Scriptures remind us to pray for our leaders. However, I did not recall this passage until I received it from a friend. It is hard for many of those who disagree with Obama to actually pray for him. I believe Psalm 109:8 will give you something to pray for. It comes with a little story to make it a bit more interesting. Yes, I checked out Psalm 109:8 and it says exactly what the email claims it says.

We were in slow-moving traffic the other day and the car in front of us had an Obama bumper sticker on it. It read: “Pray for Obama. Psalm 109:8″.
My husband’s Bible was lying on the dashboard and he got it and opened it up to the scripture and read it. He started laughing and laughing. Then he read it to me. I couldn’t believe what it said. I had a good laugh, too.
Psalm 109:8 — “Let his days be few; and let another take his office. ”
At last – I can voice a Biblical prayer for our president! Look it up – it is word for word! Let us all bow our heads and pray.
Update: Some say this means they wish him dead. Not at all, just let his days in office be few! Lighten up, please!
The Timothy verse also commands us to give thanks for Obama. We need to check our hearts and our own self righteousness and thank God. We have a government that allows us to “lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence”. The question is, do we actually LEAD that life?
Agreed. We should also recognize that God can put a leader over us to punish us. Our elected representatives represent Americans as a whole. It is the American people who have become Socialists, not wanting to work and expecting others to give them things they have not earned. Remember, thou shalt not covet!
The Bible tells us to take care of those who cannot help themselves and we should put all priority to helping the physically and mentally handicapped. However, the “sluggard” is something we should not tolerate.

Socialists and Liberals of all persuasions should take a hard look at the Bible. Even the liberal Republicans should take heed. This country will not survive with these people in power for two long. It is time to demand that the lazy work and that everyone who is able contribute to this great country!
What ever happened to Democrats like John Kennedy who famously said “Ask not what your country can do for, but what you can do for your country?” It seems to me that reasonable Democrats have mostly been replaced by Socialists at heart.
Let the sluggards suffer in the hopes that they will repent!
You don’t take your religion seriously, so why should anyone else? Do you work your way around other scriptures you find “hard to follow”? I’m betting you do. You don’t even know the difference between a prayer and a curse.
Not sure I understand your comment dooley. Does this have to do with asking people to work for what they get unless they are not capable of doing so?
The United States has had a lot of Presidents since the beginning and a lot of them have done things that people didn’t like or understand. I didn’t read or hear about Psalms 109:8 being prayed for any other president, but this one, I haven’t heard so much talk about wanting someone to fell as this one. It is so sad that there are those that say they are christian and they quote scripture yet only live by it when it suits them. President Obama says he is a christian, so with that fact along we should be praying that the Lord would lead him in the right way to go, just like we would be praying for anybody else in that office. President Obama only has 2 years to be in office, so don’t you think while he is there that, that would be the right prayer for him and US. You don’t pray for him to fell because we all fell if our leaders fell. Next election vote him out, but whoever gets into office you still will have to pray for him/her. So in that case, you’re telling me that the thing we should do every time a person gets voted into office will be to pray “Let his days be few; and let another take his office. ” Because we will keep voting people into office and we know that there is NO perfect person. We should pray that the Lord will lead them to do what is best for our Country, and if they don’t then vote them out. David had a reason for praying that prayer, old testament (before Christ)1 Timothy 2:1-3, had something else in mind (after Christ died) “1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
2For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
3For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
It is better to pray for the success of our leader(s), why not focus on that.

Yep, this Post really has caused a stir. It seems to have started out as a good laugh for those who dislike Obama’s policies. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. If he was my neighbor I would probably like the guy. I would never have voted for him. All I knew at the beginning is he just had zero experience for the job. Now I know he is a Socialist in the European Socialist form. I think I would have liked Bush as a neighbor too. I met Dick Cheyney when he was Sec Def briefly. Not sure I would have liked him as a neighbor but I might have. I did not walk away with good feelings about him. For all any of us know we may have liked Adolf Hitler as a neighbor. Hitler also was said to have been a Christian from time to time. Of course, it was a German view of Christianity that he wanted, not the wimpy version professed by many others.

Lots of people are likeable on one level and not on another. Obviously Hitler did have some friends. That did not mean he did not need to be removed from office, it just means most people, even evil people have some redeeming quality. After all, Jesus died for “scoundrels” like me, not the righteous.
It is heartening on a political and common sense level to see a majority of Americans believe he has us on the wrong path. That is according to polls. However, Obama still remains personally likeable according to the same polls. I am fairly sure another will take his place next election. If not, then we just get what we collectively ask for as Americans.
Let’s suffice it to say there is room for both prayers. One that he might see the light and the other that someone may soon take his place. Otherwise, America as we knew it will be lost. That is a political & economic tragedy, not a religious tragedy. Since Congress members are also considered leaders the same can be said for them. Let the bad ones see the light or be replaced and let good ones take their place, regardless of party. Hard times can drive unbelievers to faith and the faithful to a deeper faith. How’s that for a positive note!!
